Choosing and caring for an umbrella or raincoat

Size matters most with umbrellas. A 76cm golf umbrella covers more of you and your bag, which helps on the sidelines of weekend sport, while a 50cm or 55cm umbrella is easier for kids to carry and store. A clear dome umbrella lets you see where you are going in heavy rain. Keep a one-size raincoat in a school bag, backpack or glovebox for outdoor events and theme park days. After use, open your umbrella and leave it to dry fully before closing it, and hang raincoats up rather than folding them away wet, which stops them smelling musty. Check the age range or size on kids raincoats so they have room over a jumper.
