How to choose and hang a mirror

Work out the job first. A 180cm mirror is for checking an outfit, so it belongs in a bedroom or walk-in robe where you have room to step back. Over a sideboard, console or bed, aim for a mirror about two thirds the width of the furniture and hang it 15cm to 25cm above the top. Place mirrors beside or opposite a window to bounce light, and check what it will reflect before you drill. Large framed mirrors can be heavy, so use fixings suited to your wall, and secure leaning floor mirrors where children or pets are around. Style them with furniture or lamps for a finished corner.
