How to choose and use batteries

Check the size printed inside the battery compartment or in the manual before you buy. AA and AAA cover most remotes, clocks, torches and small toys, C and D sizes go into larger toys, lanterns and radios, and 9V is the rectangular type with two terminals on top. When you change batteries, replace the whole set at once and don't mix old with new or different brands in the same device. Line up the plus and minus marks, and take batteries out of anything you are putting away for months. When they are flat, drop them at a battery recycling point rather than the household bin. For chargers, power boards and torches, browse our electronics range, and for tools and fittings see hardware.
