How to match a toy to the way your pet plays

Dogs that love tug-of-war suit rope toys with a loop or knot at each end, while chasers get more out of balls and launchers. Pick a ball that is too big to fit fully inside your dog's mouth, and check toys often, throwing out any that are split, frayed or missing pieces. Cats respond to movement, so a few short sessions with a teaser wand beat one long one, and wand or string toys should be put away after play. For birds, hang swings and ladders near a perch without crowding the cage, and swap one item every week or two.
