How to set up a tea party table

Work out cups first. A 250ml cup and saucer suits a proper high tea, while 350ml to 405ml mugs are better for a relaxed morning tea. A 400ml teapot pours about two cups, so for a table of six or more, brew in two pots or keep the kettle warm and top up often. Mixing patterned pieces with plain white mugs stretches a small set further without looking mismatched. Finish with a tablecloth, a few small plates for cake and sandwiches, and teaspoons at every setting.
