Reusable or disposable piping bags: which to choose

Disposable pastry bags are quick and hygienic: fill, pipe, throw away, and use a fresh bag for each colour. They are the easy choice for parties and large batches. A reusable piping bag, such as a cloth bag, is washed in hot soapy water, turned inside out and dried fully before storing, which suits regular bakers. For size, a 30cm bag is comfortable for cupcakes and small jobs, while 40cm to 45cm bags hold enough buttercream to fill a whole tray without stopping to refill. Only fill a bag about two thirds full and twist the top closed so the icing does not push out the back.
