How to plan your party decor

Start with one focal point, such as the wall behind the cake or the food table, and build out from there. A foil curtain with a banner across the top gives you a photo backdrop in minutes, then hanging decorations such as swirls, honeycomb balls or disco balls fill the ceiling so the room feels decorated from every angle. Pick two or three colours and repeat them across your balloons, streamers and table setting rather than mixing every shade. For party table decorations, a centrepiece plus a scatter of confetti is plenty; keep the middle low so guests can see each other across the table. Before the day, check where you can hang things and use removable hooks or tape that will not damage paint.
