How to kit out a kitchen that works

Start with the tools you use daily: a grater, strainer, whisk, peeler, can opener and two chopping boards, one kept for raw meat. Add measuring cups and a jug so recipes turn out the same each time, and a timer if you tend to wander off mid simmer. Rotate at least three tea towels so one is always dry, and keep oven mitts by the oven. If bench space is tight, a tiered trolley puts oils and spices within reach. Wash wooden and bamboo pieces by hand and dry them straight away.
