What is in the costumes range

Hats alone cover a lot of characters. The Metallic Silver Cowboy Hat and Red Stitched Cowboy Hat are $9.99, the Pink Fluffy Cowboy Hat is $11.99 and the 1920s Gatsby Hat With Black Ribbon is $11.99, a quick start for a 1920s party look. The Black Pirate Hat - One Size Fits Most is $14.99, the Adult Deluxe Construction Helmet is $20.99 and the Kids Size Fireman Helmet is just $2.50. For a dash of colour, the Gold Bandana - 50cm x 50cm is $3.99 and headband and wristband sets start at $3.49 in orange, purple and black. Wigs go up to the Ritchie Long Black with Headband at $35.99, and the Bald Head Cap is $9.99 for anyone who needs to lose their hair for the night.

How to put together a costume

Start with the occasion and the dress code, then choose between a full costume and a build-your-own look. Full costumes save time for Book Week and school character days; check the size in the title, such as the Cat In Hat T Shirt - 8 - 10 Years or 12 - 14 Years, against clothes that fit now, and go up a size if your child is in between. For adult parties, build around one hero piece like a hat or wig, then add clothes from home in matching colours. A black shirt, a bandana and a pirate hat make a pirate costume in minutes; a white shirt and the Black Vintage Flat Cap at $9.99 cover a vintage look. Add one prop and a little makeup to finish. If you use face paint, do a small patch test first and follow the packet directions.
