How to choose the right paint brush

Match the brush to the paint. Synthetic brushes are the all rounder for acrylics and keep a clean edge. Hog bristle is stiffer, so it pushes thick paint around and leaves texture. Soft rounds, like sable or pointed round watercolour brushes, carry plenty of water for washes and fine lines. Use flats for straight edges and blocks of colour, rounds for detail and wide wash brushes for skies and backgrounds. Rinse brushes as soon as you finish, reshape the tip and dry them flat so water does not sit in the ferrule. Pair them with acrylic and craft paint and a surface from our canvases and easels.
