Christmas Decorations, Trees & Lights: The Ultimate Guide
Christmas Trees, Lights & Decorations
Everything you need to get the house ready for Christmas, from the tree and the lights to the table, the wrapping and the stockings.
Christmas Day falls on a Friday this year, so it rolls straight into a long weekend: more visitors, a bigger lunch and more time for everyone to notice the decorations. This guide walks you through the whole house in eight steps: the tree, the baubles, the lights, the garlands, the rest of the house, the table, the wrapping and the stocking fillers.
Every product below is in stock now. The Base Warehouse has more than 1,100 Christmas lines online, from $1 gift bags to full size trees, including Christmas decorations, Christmas lights and tableware, in 7 stores across New South Wales.
Heads up: full size trees and the big outdoor pieces sell out first, and most stores only get a few of each. If one catches your eye, grab it now.
The 8 step Christmas checklist
Work through it in order and the house will be done before the school holidays start.
Start with the tree
Everything else hangs off the tree, so pick it first. Measure your ceiling and leave at least 30cm for the topper. Metal legs mean a steadier stand, and flocked snow tips look great even before you add a single bauble. See every height and style in Christmas trees, or go small with tabletop trees.
Dress the tree
Go big at the bottom and small at the top. Pick two or three colours, buy more baubles than you think you need (a 180cm tree eats 60 or more), then finish with a topper. Shatterproof baubles are the safe bet with kids and pets around. Browse Christmas baubles, tree ornaments and tree toppers.
Light it up
Lights go on before the baubles, wrapped from the trunk out to the tips. Solar lights are the easy win outside: no extension leads across the lawn and no power bill. Inside, cluster lights give the fullest glow on the tree. See every option in Christmas lights, fairy lights and solar Christmas lights.
Deck the halls
A garland over the mantel or along the stair rail and a wreath on the front door are the two fastest ways to make the whole house feel like Christmas. Weave a string of fairy lights through the garland for extra glow. Shop tinsel and garlands and Christmas wreaths.
Garlands, wreaths, reindeer, tree skirts and tabletop trees. The finishing touches that make it feel like Christmas in every room.
Shop Christmas decorationsFinish the house
Once the tree is done, carry the theme through the rest of the house. A tree skirt hides the stand, a reindeer by the fireplace or front door gets everyone talking, and an inflatable out the front tells the whole street you are ready. Browse Christmas home decorations and outdoor decorations.
Set the Christmas table
Christmas lunch is the main event, so give the table its own moment. Start with a runner, add a cake stand for dessert and a tray for the nibbles, and keep paper plates on hand for the kids table and the leftovers. See the full range of Christmas tableware and Christmas partyware.
1. Only use lights labelled for outdoor use outside. 2. Check last year's strings for cracked bulbs or damaged cords before they go up. 3. Never run leads under rugs or through doors and windows that close on them. 4. Switch lights off when you go to bed or leave the house, or use a timer. 5. Keep lights, candles and heaters away from paper decorations and the tree.
Solar and low voltage lights take most of the worry out of outdoor displays.
Gift bags in every size, bows, ribbon, tissue and Santa sacks. Everything you need to have it all wrapped before the last minute rush.
Shop gift wrap and bagsWrap it and stuff it
Don't leave the wrapping to Christmas Eve. Big gifts go straight in a jumbo bag, a bow does the rest, and a Santa sack and stockings are ready for the morning. Shop Christmas gift wrap, gift bags, ribbons and bows and stockings.
Hats on, treats out
Hats and headbands make the family photo, and edible stocking fillers keep the kids busy while the adults cook. Grab a few spares for visitors. Shop Christmas costume accessories and Christmas lollies and treats.

Christmas FAQs
When is Christmas 2026?
Christmas Day 2026 is a Friday, which turns Christmas into a long weekend with Boxing Day on the Saturday. Get the tree up and the lights on by early December so you get the full month out of them.
Where can I buy Christmas decorations in NSW?
The Base Warehouse has Christmas trees, lights, baubles, garlands and tableware in 7 stores across New South Wales, from Gregory Hills to Wagga Wagga, and online at our Christmas range with delivery Australia wide.
What size Christmas tree should I buy?
Measure from the floor to the ceiling and take off about 30cm so the topper fits. For a standard 2.4m ceiling, a 180cm tree is the sweet spot. For apartments, a 120cm to 150cm tree or a tabletop tree works better.
Are solar Christmas lights any good?
Yes, especially in Australia. A sunny December day charges them fully, they switch on by themselves at dusk, and there are no leads across the lawn or extra power bills. Put the panel where it gets direct sun for most of the day.
How many baubles do I need for my tree?
As a rule of thumb, allow about 10 baubles for every 30cm of tree. That is around 60 for a 180cm tree. Mix three sizes and two or three colours so it looks full and planned.
Do you deliver Christmas orders?
Yes. Online orders are packed and shipped from our Gregory Hills warehouse with delivery Australia wide, and Express Post is available. Order early in December so everything arrives well before Christmas. Afterpay is available in store and online on orders over $60, and Zip is available online.
