How to plan a themed party

Pick a theme that suits the guests: construction, dinosaur and pirate work well for younger kids, while disco, hippie and gangster suit adult birthdays and work functions. Build around one feature piece, like a mirror ball, a palm tree cutout or a large foil balloon, then add tableware and plain balloons in the theme colours. Most plates and cups come in packs of 8, so for 20 guests buy three packs. Low-cost dress-up pieces such as hard hats, leis and party glasses let every guest join in without a full costume. Keep latex balloons away from children under 8. For parties built around a named character see our character party supplies, or browse the full themed party range.
